Education West Africa helps school pupils in Sierra Leone get a better start in life.

Through education, young people can strive to escape poverty and get a job, earn money, live a healthier life, become independent and contribute to their family and the economy of their country.

We ask children, teachers and headteachers what their greatest needs are, and set up projects to fulfil those needs.

Sierra Leone is one of the poorest countries in the world, with a life expectancy of 54 (World Bank data). Education is key to changing this for future generations.

  • Bopani school completed

    The new school for the children of the remote village of Bopani has now been completed, and the whole community is delighted. The children of Bopani used to have to learn in a small thatched hut, but now have a proper building with three classrooms and an office/store. This has been a major project because of the remote location of the village, and Education Secretary Alex Puhindei has had to be very creative to find ways of transporting building

    A huge thank you to the people of Pulborough for raising £1,183 for EWA on Shrove Tuesday. They cooked and sold pancakes all day and organised a tombola. EWA is delighted to be one of the three charities supported by this event. Special thanks to EWA Chair Alyson Heath for her help on the day.
